Katherine Jenkins finding it hard to sing love songs after her split from Gethin Jones

I caught up with Katherine, 31, after her last-night gig and she admitted she had found the dates “difficult” because of her connection to her music. She said: “I sing from my heart so it’s been difficult to sing love songs. Those songs were written before everything happened. “I got really emotional at the end because I know the journey I’ve been on. “Break It To My Heart was recorded pre-everything. It’s still a song that people ask me to perform, so I can’t ignore it.” Being onstage in London also tugged at her heart-strings. Katherine admitted: “It means so much because I have all my friends and family here – London is my second home.” Katherine Jenkins

The Welsh warbler and former Blue Peter presenter Gethin, 33, once shared a £4.7million home in the capital.

Together for four years, they got engaged in January 2011 but announced their separation on December 30. Gethin insisted they were both “heartbroken”.

Katherine admitted she found herself close to tears on stage on Thursday night.

At one point she told the audience they had “mended her heart”. She added: “When I first started this tour I was a bit of a mess.

“I didn’t know how I was going to get through it. I looked at my list of songs and they’re all about love and heartbreak… But that’s my problem.”

She admitted she had been dreading February 14 and “thought Valentine’s Day was going to be awful”.

But in the end “it turned out fine”. Katherine was delighted to hear that her sister Laura had got engaged and revealed that her pals had all rallied round to cheer her up.

At the after-show party, she said: “I spent it with loads of my girlfriends and a few of my gay friends.

“We all got together and watched a movie. It was great.”

Asked if she got any cards, she grinned: “Maybe.”

She also revealed that during her tour a male fan managed to sneak past security and get into her dressing room.

“A man came in to, er, give me a hug,” she said with a giggle. “It was dealt with by security. I don’t want to make a big deal out of it.”

Katherine, who went on to party until 3.20am at Mayfair club Mahiki, will be taking a well-deserved month off before gearing up for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert in June.
